Alaska is well known for its glaciers, natural beauty and marine wildlife. Unfortunately, Seward, Alaska, located on the Kenai Peninsula, is becoming increasingly known for coal dust pollution.
In response to an emerging industry trend to export coal (rather than burn it in US power plants), Global Community Monitor is working with communities in Seward to conduct one of the first studies in the US on the air pollution impacts of coal export facilities.
Our goals with this work are to halt the expansion of the facility in Seward, Alaska and prevent the construction of new facilities.
